First, I want to make it clear that there is no guaranteed way you can earn money from this platform. So, if you’re looking for a surefire way to earn prizes, this is not the most ideal site to join.
To be eligible for potential prizes on GuruShots, you must participate in the photo challenges. The idea is to choose the challenge you want to join and submit your original photo to it. Then, members of the site can vote for the best submission.
Each challenge has three awards or categories that you can win:
- Top Photographer
- Top Photo
- Guru’s Best Choice.
The participant who receives the most votes for their photo in the challenge will win the Top Photographer award, and the participant whose single photo receives the most votes in the challenge will win the Top Photo award.
Meanwhile, the Guru’s Top Pick award will go to the participant whose photo was chosen by the Challenge Guru (who created the challenge). If you are among the winners, you will receive the award after the challenge ends. Keep in mind that you are limited to only four submissions per challenge, so you will need to choose which photos to submit carefully.
You will know if you win because you will receive an email from Gurushots informing you that you are among the winners of the challenge. One thing you should keep in mind is that the award will not be automatically credited to your account. You will need to claim your award from the challenge page.
In some challenges, there will be more than three winners, so check the challenge details page to find out what the award is and how many winners will be selected. One thing you need to know is that some challenges will require some kind of entry fee, which is usually in the form of Guru Coins.
These coins can be earned from the challenge and as a new member, you will receive 150 coins as a starter package.
The most important thing to remember when submitting photos for a challenge is to make sure that your submission fits the theme of the challenge. So, if you don’t have any photos that fit that theme, don’t join a challenge.
Also, Gurushots is very strict about the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence). Gurushots strictly prohibits the use of AI-generated images or any form of AI-assisted post-processing.
They say that the purpose of Gurushots is to showcase your photography skills, so using AI will not benefit you. And trust me, they will be able to detect whether your photo was created by AI or if you used AI post-processing effects.
How do you get paid from GuruShots?

Most of the challenges that Gurushots hosts will not pay you cash. Don’t get me wrong, there will be challenges with cash prizes, but these are very rare.
Most of the time, the prizes will be in the form of physical goods like Guru Coins and camera gear. However, some challenges offer entry to photo exhibitions in physical or online galleries. In my opinion, these are the most rewarding challenges for photographers because of how much exposure their photos (and therefore their skills) will get.
Now, if you win cash, how do you withdraw your winnings? Well, from what I can gather, they usually let you pay cash via PayPal, which is a convenient payment option in my opinion.

In my opinion, the best part about GuruShots is that it’s free to join and it’s available more or less worldwide, so you can sign up as a member from anywhere in the world.
You can sign up using either your email address or your Facebook account. After completing the registration, you can log in to the dashboard and start participating in challenges immediately.
Now, one thing you need to know about being a member of GuruShots. It is that your membership level can be leveled up. Leveling up your membership level will give you access to some benefits such as increasing the maximum number of submissions per challenge, the ability to use boosts and swaps, and more.
The good thing is that you can increase your membership level organically just by being an active member. So, you don’t have to do anything special to get these benefits, which is a good feature in my opinion.
